Grieving the loss of a loved one can be a long process. It is natural for many to turn to God in these times. Although it can also be normal to experience anger, disappointment in God, or a general lack of faith. Don’t despair! God is still there. He is waiting for you and patiently allows each of us to grieve in our own way.
I myself lost a son to stillbirth many years ago and my father a few years ago. These were completely different grief processes for me. After the loss of my son, it took a while for me to learn to trust in God again. But when I finally turned back to him, I found such beautiful gifts.
Here is a prayer I wrote. I hope you find it helpful. If you share it, please include an attribution and link back to this page.
Prayer for the Grieving
Heavenly Father, my heart it empty.
This loss weighs so heavily on me.
I am completely dependent on you.
Please send me your Spirit to help me recognize you,
In the faces of those consoling me,
In the hands of those comforting me.
Help me see that I am not alone.
I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ,
My Lord and Savior,
Who suffered and died for me
So that I and those I love
Might know the joy of eternal life with you.
Let me not lose hope.
Let this loss teach me to trust in you.
You give and take away.
Blessed be your name.
