Make a Good Deeds Chain

Make a Good Deeds Chain

During Advent and Lent we especially focus on doing acts of charity and kindness for other. To reinforce this, start a good deeds chain today. A good deeds chain is a simple paper chain, but you must do a good deed for each piece of paper you add.

So have some slips of paper ready, and every time a member of your family does an act of charity for somebody else, write it on the chain.

Consider these thoughts from our Holy Father:

Let's choose a concrete commitment, however small, that's adapted to our situation in life, and let's continue to do it to prepare ourselves for Christmas: call a person who is alone, visit that elderly or ill person, do something to serve a poor person, someone in need.

Pope Francis

You can use different colors to represent different types of charity - for example purple for doing an extra chore, green for making a donation, pink for helping somebody outside of your family, etc.

Hopefully by the end of the Advent season or Lent you will have a nice long chain decorating some part of your house!

Surprise a Neighbor

Take some time to do an act of kindness for a neighbor today. Bake some cookies or make a batch of soup. Elderly shut-ins will especially appreciate the thoughtfulness of an act like this.

Call to Family Community and Participation

Our families are communities. We must work to build them up, just like any other social structure.
