Where Is God? – A Prayer Based on Psalm 22

Where Is God?

This prayer based on Psalm 22 is a prayer for when we feel like God is nowhere to be found. Psalm 22 is the psalm Jesus prayed from the cross when he quoted “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”

Where Is God? Prayer

Based on Psalm 22

You have deserted me God.
I am overcome with fear and you are gone.

You’ve always been there for me.
When I placed my trust in you,
You rescued me again and again.

But now I feel worthless.
I am trampled upon and hopeless.
They laugh at me for believing in you.
“Where is God now?” they say.

I need you now more that ever.
You have always been with me.
Where have you gone my God?
Come back!

I am broken and weak.
My pain will never end.
I am in agony.
I am completely alone.

I will not give up on you.
Hear me God! I am here.
And I still have my memories.
I recall all of the times you rescued me.

So I will be patient and endure.
I believe you are coming to my rescue again.
You are Lord of Creation
And you can overcome the emptiness inside of me.
I will praise your holy name
And all will hear me.

Amen.
