The readings for the 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time encourage us to make our relationship with God first in all we do. The first reading (2 Kings 4:8-11, 14-16A) recounts how a woman provided hospitality to Elisha and was rewarded for her generosity. The psalm (Psalm 89:2-3, 16-17, 18-19) reminds us that all of the good things in our lives come from God. The second reading (Romans 6:3-4, 8-11) reminds us that we share in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ through our baptism. And in the gospel (Matthew 10:26-33) Jesus tells us “Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”
So discipleship, baptism, and redemption are good themes for this weekend’s readings. Here are some ideas:
