The Theology of Marriage
In this homily, Bishop Robert Barron explains that marriage is more than a legal contract or social arrangement. More Themes for the 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year B
Jesus blesses the children and tells us to be more like them. These children are not trying to establish their own identity. They are who they are - children of their parents. They are not constantly wondering what others think of them or evaluating themselves.
In the same way, we must be children of our heavenly Father. We do not need to live for the approval of others. We do not need to look in the mirror and wonder if we are measuring up. Instead, we just need to be the people God created us to be.
In the reading from Genesis, God declares the things he created "good". Until he gets to man being by himself. That is "not good". This certainly points to the Sacrament of Matrimony, but it also points to the needs of all of us for companionship. God creates woman to solve this problem. In the same way we need to nurture our friendships so that we are not alone.
