Saint Mary of Egypt

After praying, she was able to enter the church. She gave thanks and promised to change her life. She heard a voice telling her to cross the Jordan River and live in the desert. She obeyed right away.

Mary crossed the Jordan and went into the desert. She lived there for many years, alone with God. She wore no fine clothes and ate only what she could find.

After Mary’s death, Zosimas buried her in the desert. It is said that a lion helped him dig her grave. Her life and death were written down by Saint Sophronius.
