St. Blaise is known for healing a choking child. So he is the patron saint of throat illnesses and injuries of the throat. Every year on his feast day, February 3, throat blessings are held at Catholic Churches around the world.
Two candles are crossed in front of the person’s throat, and then the priest offers this prayer:
Through the intercession of Saint Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God deliver you from ailments of the throat and from every other evil.
