First Reading for The Common of Pastors

Deuteronomy 10:8-9

This reading can be used when it is not the Easter season.

Summary: The LORD set apart the Levites to carry the ark, serve him, and bless in his name. Their inheritance is not land, but the LORD himself.

The Role of the Levites

At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to minister to him, and to bless in his name, as they have done to this day.

For this reason, Levi has no hereditary portion with his relatives; the LORD himself is his portion, as the LORD, your God, promised him.
