TV can be fun. It’s easy to sit down, turn it on, and relax for hours. But when we do that too often, we lose time for other things. Lent is a time to make space for God. Giving up TV is one way to do that.
Without TV, your days feel different. At first, you might feel bored. That’s okay. Boredom is not bad. It gives your brain time to slow down. It opens space to think, pray, and just be quiet for a while.
Jesus went into the desert for 40 days. He didn’t have distractions. He made time for prayer and listening. When you give up TV, you are doing something like that. You’re stepping away from noise and making time for peace.
You might not hear God’s voice in a loud or clear way. But with fewer screens, it becomes easier to notice God’s quiet presence. You may feel it in the way your thoughts settle or how you find peace in silence.
You may also have more time with your family. Without TV, you can talk, play games, go outside, or cook together. These things help you grow closer to the people God gave you.
You can also read Scripture or learn about a saint. You could try journaling or praying the Rosary. These small habits help you grow in faith, one step at a time.
If giving up TV feels hard, that’s okay too. A sacrifice should feel like a stretch. But it should also lead somewhere better. Keep going. Ask God to help. Use the time well.
When Easter comes, you might look back and realize you didn’t miss TV as much as you thought. You may even decide to keep your screen time low, even after Lent ends.
Prayer
Jesus, help me turn off the noise and turn to You. Teach me to be quiet and listen. Help me make time for prayer, peace, and the people I love. Show me how to grow closer to You this Lent. Amen.
