When we hear about King Solomon, we often think of wisdom and riches. He had more wealth and power than anyone could imagine. Yet, in the end, those things pulled him away from God. His story is a reminder that money and stuff do not bring lasting peace.
It is easy to think that having the newest phone, the best clothes, or the right friends will make us happy. But chasing after these things can leave us feeling empty. Just like Solomon, we can let our focus drift away from God if we care too much about possessions.
Idolatry does not always mean worshiping statues. It can mean making something else the most important thing in our lives. For some, that might be popularity. For others, it might be sports, grades, or social media. When these things come first, they take the place that belongs to God.
Solomon’s life shows us what happens when wealth and idols become more important than faith. His kingdom fell apart after he turned from God. Our own lives can also feel broken when we let other things control us instead of listening to God’s call.
This does not mean that success, sports, or money are bad. They can be good gifts. But they must never be the center of our lives. When we use them to honor God and help others, they find their right place.
The question for us is simple: What are we chasing? If we want a life that is full and meaningful, we must choose God first. Everything else comes second.
Solomon’s story pushes us to stop and think. Are we putting God at the center of our choices, or are we letting other things crowd Him out? His life shows us both the danger of turning away and the joy of choosing what really matters.
Prayer
Lord, help me to keep You first in my life. Teach me to see when I am chasing things that do not matter. Give me wisdom to use my time, gifts, and blessings to honor You. Guide my heart to love You above all things. Amen.
