Materials Needed
- One pair of shoes from each person
- Large box or bin to hold the shoes
- String or yarn (optional, for tying shoes together)
Setup Instructions
- Pick a safe and open space for the group to gather.
- As youth arrive, ask each person to remove their shoes and place them in the box.
- If possible, tie each pair of shoes together using string or laces to keep them matched.
- Set the box of shoes in the center of the area.
- Have everyone sit in a circle or semi-circle around the box.
Game Instructions
- Choose one person to be the first “guesser.”
- The leader picks a pair of shoes and holds them up for all to see.
- The guesser looks at the shoes and shares three traits or guesses about the owner. For example: “I think this person likes hiking,” or “This person seems quiet.”
- After giving three traits, the guesser tries to name the owner.
- If the guess is right, the owner takes back their shoes. A new pair of shoes is chosen, and someone else becomes the guesser.
- If the guess is wrong, the person who was guessed becomes the new guesser. They now describe and guess the owner of the same pair.
- Keep playing until all shoes are returned to their owners.
Extra Notes
- This game works best in a group that is still getting to know each other.
- Remind players to be kind and respectful with their guesses.
- For safety, keep the shoe pile neat and avoid running or jumping while barefoot.
- If some youth are uncomfortable removing shoes, let them use hats, scarves, or other personal items instead.
