When she was a little girl, something special happened. A bishop named Germanus of Auxerre came to her town. He saw something holy in her. He told her parents that she was called by God.

Geneviève was only about seven years old. But she said yes to God. She wanted to give her whole life to Him. She said she would never marry. She wanted to belong only to God.

She received a special blessing from Bishop Germanus. He gave her a cross to wear. From that day on, she prayed often and lived simply.

Even as a young girl, she fasted and helped the poor. She did not care about money or fine clothes. She cared about people.

When Geneviève was older, she moved to Paris. The city was in trouble many times. There were wars and attacks. One big danger came from a group called the Huns.
