Blessed Placido Riccardi

Placido Riccardi was born in Trevi, Italy, in 1844. His family was simple and hardworking. From a young age, Placido showed signs of loving prayer and quiet. He was not loud or playful like other children. He liked to be still and listen to God.

As he grew up, Placido became even more serious about his faith. He spent a lot of time at church. He loved the Mass and learned about the saints. His teachers saw that he was a good student and very respectful.

Placido felt God calling him to a religious life. He decided he wanted to be a monk. He was drawn to the Benedictine way, which is a life of prayer, work, and silence. His family supported his choice, even though it meant he would live away from them.

Placido entered the Benedictine monastery at Monte Cassino. Later, he moved to the Abbey of Saint Paul Outside the Walls in Rome. He lived a very quiet and simple life. He followed the Rule of Saint Benedict, which teaches prayer, work, and obedience.
