Gospel for Our Lady of Sorrows

John 19:25-27

Summary: As Jesus hung on the cross, He entrusted His mother to the care of His beloved disciple. From that moment, the disciple brought her into his home and cared for her.

Gospel Acclamation: Blessed are you, O Virgin Mary; without dying you won the martyr's crown beneath the Cross of the Lord.

At the Foot of the Cross

Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.

When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.”

Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother.”

And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.
