Equipment / Materials

  • About two dozen plastic cups (use more for a larger group)
  • A large open space for play

Setup Instructions

  1. Divide the players into two equal teams.
  2. Assign one team as the “Up” team and the other as the “Down” team.
  3. Spread all the cups around the play area. Place them on their sides so they are easy to flip.
  4. Make sure there is enough space for players to move safely.

Game Play Instructions

  1. When the leader says “Go,” both teams start flipping cups.
  2. The “Up” team tries to flip all cups so they stand upright.
  3. The “Down” team tries to flip all cups upside down.
  4. Players must keep moving and flipping cups as fast as they can.
  5. After a set time, the leader calls “Stop!”
  6. Count the cups. The team with more cups in their position wins.

Variations and Safety Notes

  • The leader can end the game when one team gets all the cups in their position instead of using a timer.
  • For a bigger challenge, add more cups or spread them farther apart.
  • Make sure players do not run into each other or push. Keep the game fun and safe.
  • If playing indoors, choose a space with no breakable items nearby.
