Equipment/Materials
- Wiffle ball
- Wiffle ball bat
- Four small inflatable kiddie pools
- Sprinklers (optional)
- Slip ‘n Slide (optional)
- Splash pad (optional)
- Ice (optional)
Setup Instructions
- Inflate the kiddie pools and fill them with water.
- Place the pools where the bases would be in a regular wiffle ball game (first base, second base, third base, and home plate).
- If using sprinklers, set them up between home and first base and between third base and home plate. Ensure they spray water across the running paths.
- Lay out a Slip ‘n Slide between third base and home plate (optional).
- Position a splash pad in the batter’s box (optional).
- Mark three zones in the field for singles, doubles, and triples.
Game Play Instructions
- Divide the group into two teams.
- The pitcher throws the ball to the batter. For young children, have an adult or older youth pitch.
- Young children swing until they hit the ball. Older children get three pitches before they are out.
- A ball hit into the singles zone is a single. Into the doubles zone is a double. Into the triples zone is a triple.
- If the ball does not reach the singles zone, it is an out.
- Fielders can stop the ball to prevent it from going into a higher zone.
- A ball caught in the air is an out.
- Runners stand in the kiddie pools to be “on base.”
- A player who makes it around all four bases scores a point for their team.
- The team with the most points after five innings wins.
Additional Notes
- Add ice to the kiddie pools to make the water extra cold.
- Adjust the distance of the zones based on the age and skill level of the players.
- Ensure the play area is free of obstacles and safe for running.
- Have towels and a change of clothes ready for the players.
- Consider playing kickball using the same water setup for a fun variation.
