A Prayer for Putting on a Mask

About this face mask prayer

Here is a prayer for putting on a mask. Stop and pause and use your senses at the parts where it says breathe in and breathe out. Really feel your breathe. It is a sign of life and a gift from God.

I thought we were finished with wearing face masks. I was so happy when I heard that the vaccinated did not have to wear them any more. But this virus is proving difficult to overcome. So once again we find ourselves putting on face masks again. So I wrote this prayer.

Here is a simple prayer, appropriate for youth and adults alike, for putting on a mask. Pray it with your family, with your grade school classroom at Catholic parochial school or faith formation, or with your teens at a youth ministry event.

Remember, that wearing the mask is an act of love. And it is a small sacrifice compared to many others.

Creator of All,
As I put on this mask,
I cover my face.
As I go about my daily tasks
May people see you at work.

I breathe in. I breathe out.
I feel your love in me.

Lord Jesus Christ,
I don’t like the feel of the mask
on my face and my ears.
May I remember that you have
Shown me that love is a sacrifice.

I breathe in. I breathe out.
I feel your grace in me.

Holy Spirit,
Doing this day after day
is getting old.
Help me remember that I
am protecting the gift of life.

I breathe in. I breathe out.
I feel your life in me.

Amen.
