2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time – Year A (2023)

Sunday, January 15, 2023

For Year A, the readings inspire us to think about the call to holiness and the need to declare that Jesus has died for our redemption. In the first reading (Isaiah 49:3, 5-6), we hear one of the “Servant Songs”. The psalm (Psalm 40:2, 4, 7-8, 8-9, 10) is a prayer of both thanksgiving and lament. The second reading (1 Corinthians 1:1-3) evokes the call to holiness. The Gospel (John 1:29-34) recalls the public actions of John the Baptist to identify Jesus as the Lamb of God. John the Baptist recalls the baptism of Jesus and that he saw the Spirit descend upon Jesus.

Now I have seen and testified that he is the Son of God.
