The readings for the First Sunday of Advent for Year A speak of readiness for the coming of Jesus Christ. In the first reading (Isaiah 2:1-5) we hear that God will establish His kingdom. The psalm (Psalm 122: 1-2, 3-4, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9) sings of Jerusalem. In the second reading (Romans 13:11-14) Paul warns us to be awake. In the gospel (Matthew 24:37-44) Jesus warns us not to be unprepared, as people were in the days of Noah.
