When we cannot come to church, let us turn towards the Tabernacle and make a spiritual Communion.
St. John Vianney
A wall cannot separate us from God.
The Practice of Spiritual Communion
It has long been a practice for those who cannot receive the actual body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ in communion to join spiritually with Him. But during the coronavirus pandemic, when we were not able to gather in order to protect the good of all, this practice became more common. While participating in Mass via a livestream or a recorded video, we make a spiritual communion.
Prayer for Spiritual Communion
I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there
and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen.
