The readings for the Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time for Year C are all about being blessed, which might also be translated happy or lucky. In the first reading (Jeremiah 17:5-8) we hear that those who trust in God are blessed and will bear fruit. The psalm (Psalm 1:1-2, 3, 4 and 6) sings “Blessed are they who hope in the Lord.” In the second reading (1 Corinthians 15:12, 16-20) Paul reminds us that our hope is in the risen Christ. In the gospel (Luke 6:17, 20-26) Jesus turns upside down the notion of what it means to be blessed.
So the focus this weekend is on the Beatitudes and the many blessings in our lives. Here are some ideas:
