January 2027

Mass Readings and Free Resources

January 2027 focuses on listening, following, and trusting God step by step. It begins with Mary and her quiet yes, then moves to Jesus being shown to all people. We are reminded that we belong to God through baptism and are called to live with care and purpose. As the weeks continue, we see people hearing God’s voice, choosing change, and leaving old paths behind. Jesus speaks with clear authority and brings freedom. January invites us to pay attention, respond with trust, and follow Jesus in daily life.

January 2027 is Year B in the Sunday liturgical cycle and Year 1 in the weekday cycle.

Sundays and Holy Days in January 2027

Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God

Friday January 1, 2027

This feast honors Mary as the mother of Jesus, who is both God and man. It reminds us that her yes made room for God to enter the world. The readings show God blessing His people and sending His Son to save us. Mary’s role helps us see how faith and trust can shape God’s plan and bring hope to the world.

The Gospel shows Mary listening and thinking quietly about all she sees. She teaches us to slow down and make space for God. The shepherds bring joy and share the good news. As the new year begins, this feast invites us to seek peace and follow Jesus with Mary’s help. She walks with us as a caring mother and guide.

Epiphany of Our Lord

Sunday January 3, 2027

The Epiphany celebrates Jesus being shown to the world. The wise men travel far and follow a star to find Him. They are strangers, yet they are welcomed. This shows that Jesus is for everyone. Light leads them, and they respond with joy, respect, and gifts. Their journey shows what happens when people search with trust and patience.

This feast also invites us to look at our own path. The star reminds us that God guides those who seek Him. The magi choose courage over fear and return home changed. Jesus is a gentle king, unlike Herod. Epiphany calls us to choose His way and share His light with others.

Baptism of the Lord

Sunday January 10, 2027

This feast remembers the day Jesus went into the river and was baptized by John. He stood with the people and shared their path. God spoke and named Him as His Son. The Spirit came down and stayed with Him. This moment begins Jesus’ work among the people. It shows a quiet start, shaped by trust, care, and faithfulness.

The feast also points us back to our own baptism. We were washed with water and claimed as God’s children. We are called to live with love and patience each day. This day reminds us that we belong to God. We are sent to do good, help others, and walk in hope.

2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Sunday January 17, 2027

This Sunday is about hearing and responding. Samuel hears a voice but needs help to understand it. With guidance, he learns how to listen and answer. His story shows that God often speaks in quiet ways. We may not notice at first. Faith grows when we stay open and allow others to help us learn and listen better.

The Gospel shows people choosing to follow Jesus after a simple meeting. They are curious and willing to stay with Him. One disciple invites another to come and see. Lives begin to shift through small steps. This day reminds us that following Jesus starts with paying attention and saying yes, even in simple ways.

3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Sunday January 24, 2027

This Sunday shows how people react when God speaks. Jonah warns a city, and the people choose to change. Their choices matter, and mercy follows. The message is clear and direct. When people listen and act, new paths open. God gives another chance and waits for a response that is honest and real.

The Gospel shows Jesus calling workers by the sea. They stop what they are doing and go with Him. Paul reminds us that many things pass with time. This day asks us to hold life lightly and listen closely. When God calls, the moment matters. Faith grows when we choose to move forward without delay.

4th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Sunday January 31, 2027

This Sunday shows Jesus teaching in a clear and strong way. People notice right away that His words are different. He does not argue or explain at length. He speaks, and things change. When He frees a man from an unclean spirit, everyone sees that His voice carries real strength and truth.

The readings invite us to listen closely and take Jesus seriously. Moses speaks of one who must be heard, and Paul speaks about focus. Jesus calls us to give Him our attention. When we listen and trust His lead, we find freedom and peace growing in our lives.
