December 2024
Mass Readings and Free Resources
December is a month of hope, waiting, and joy. We prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus by turning to prayer, love, and faith. The Church invites us to be watchful and ready, to trust in God’s promises, and to live with kindness. Mary shows us how to say yes to God, and John the Baptist calls us to make straight our paths. As Christmas draws near, we celebrate the gift of Jesus, the light of the world. Family, peace, and gratitude fill this season as we welcome the Savior with joy.
December 2024 is Year C in the Sunday liturgical cycle.

Sundays and Holy Days in December 2024
1st Sunday of Advent
Sunday December 1, 2024
The 1st Sunday of Advent Year C begins a new Church year and invites us to prepare for Jesus with hope and trust. The readings remind us that God keeps His promises and calls us to live with faith and love. We wait not with fear, but with confidence in God’s goodness and mercy.
This Sunday teaches us to stay alert, pray for strength, and keep our hearts open. Advent is a time to pause and look toward the light of Christ. As we wait for His coming, we learn to grow in love, live in holiness, and find peace in God’s promise.
2nd Sunday of Advent
Sunday December 8, 2024
The 2nd Sunday of Advent Year C calls us to prepare our hearts for Jesus. John the Baptist reminds us to turn away from sin and make the path straight for the Lord. God’s promise of salvation is near, and He invites us to walk in His mercy and peace. This is a time to act with love, forgive others, and welcome God’s light into our lives.
As we light the second candle, we remember that waiting for Jesus means getting ready in faith and kindness. God is faithful and wants us to grow in love, hope, and unity. Every good deed and prayer helps prepare the world for Christ’s coming.
The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Monday December 9, 2024
The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary is transferred to the 9th in December 2024 because the 2nd Sunday of Advent takes precedence.
The Feast of the Immaculate Conception honors Mary, who was free from original sin from the moment she was conceived. God gave her this special grace so she could be the pure and holy mother of Jesus. This feast reminds us that God prepares each of us for a purpose and that His mercy is always at work in our lives.
Mary’s example teaches us to live with faith, humility, and obedience. She said yes to God and trusted His plan completely. As the new Eve, she helped bring salvation through her obedience. We can look to Mary for guidance, asking her to help us follow God’s will with love and trust.
3rd Sunday of Advent
Sunday December 15, 2024
The 3rd Sunday of Advent Year C, called Gaudete Sunday, is a day of joy. We rejoice because the Lord is near. The readings remind us not to be afraid but to trust in God’s love and presence. Real joy comes from knowing that God is with us, even when life is not perfect. His peace fills our hearts when we pray and stay close to Him.
This Sunday calls us to live with kindness and generosity. John the Baptist tells us to share, be honest, and care for others. When we do these things, we bring joy to the world. Gaudete Sunday reminds us to smile, be thankful, and look forward to the coming of Jesus with hope.
4th Sunday of Advent
Sunday December 22, 2024
The 4th Sunday of Advent Year C reminds us that God’s promise of peace is near. The readings tell of Bethlehem, a small and humble place chosen for great things. God’s plan often begins quietly but brings lasting joy. We see His faithfulness as He prepares to send Jesus, the one who brings peace to all people.
Mary’s visit to Elizabeth fills this Sunday with joy and hope. Their meeting shows the power of faith and trust in God. Mary’s belief and obedience remind us to open our hearts to God’s will. As we prepare for Christmas, we are called to live with love, kindness, and peace, ready to welcome Jesus into our lives.
Christmas Day – The Feast of the Nativity of Our Lord
Wednesday December 25, 2024
Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus, the Son of God, who came to bring hope and salvation to the world. It is a time of joy, peace, and love. The story of His birth in Bethlehem reminds us that God chose humble beginnings to show His great love for all people. We gather with family and friends to give thanks, share gifts, and remember the true meaning of Christmas.
The celebration continues through the Octave of Christmas, eight days filled with special feasts and prayers. Each day helps us stay close to the joy of Jesus’ birth. This holy season reminds us to keep Christ at the center of our lives and to share His love with others.
The Feast of the Holy Family
Sunday December 29, 2024
The Feast of the Holy Family Year C reminds us that Jesus grew up in a real family filled with love, faith, and care. Mary and Joseph taught Him and guided Him, showing that God’s presence is found in ordinary family life. Their story reminds us that families face both joys and worries, but love and trust in God bring peace and strength.
This feast teaches us to live with patience, kindness, and forgiveness. Small acts like helping, listening, and saying thank you build love at home. The Holy Family is our model of faith and unity. By following their example, we can make our homes places of prayer, respect, and peace.
